chapeaux & champange

It’s nice to come back from a European summer into Melbourne’s coldest time with something to help me speed through it! This millinery showcase has been in the works before I left for Europe. Now that it’s set live and tickets are being sold, we’re all getting pretty excited about it! It’s a short time to throw such an event together, but with four minds – we’ll get the job done!

Millinery Showcase in Melbourne

Three other emerging Melbourne milliners and I have joined forces to create an event where we can showcase our talents. Each milliner has a different style which compliments each other nicely. Each milliner has similar work ethics, producing their designs with great thought and meticulous handwork. These millinery pieces take a lot of time to make. We all love what we do so we don’t mind the hours spent on them, like every other passionate milliner.

With the Melbourne Spring Carnival approaching us soon we’ve all stepped into gear and are getting our spring collections finalised. It’s only a couple of months away from the Caulfield Cup Carnival! Holding such an event gives us that little push to work faster. We’re also feeling great that we’re getting the opportunity to raise money for charity as well as showcasing our beautiful millinery.

Daria – Win this hat!

This Spring, velvet&tonic has gone with vintage romance as inspiration. Having always loved the glamour and romance of the vintage era, it is such a pleasure to get some inspiration from the millinery looks from back then. The collection I’ve created is reminiscent of the vintage era, with a dose of modern flair thrown into them. Trimmings are kept to a minimum, adding interest to each piece by sculpturing the materials used.

The hat which I created to be raffled off at the event was kept simply Melbourne black. It’s such a pretty piece constructed of crinoline set on a textured button hat. I wanted to create a piece which needs very little frill to make it fascinating. It’s designed to wear on the side of the head and over one eye for an alluring look. This piece is called ‘Daria’ and she’s going to be perfect for more than just the races! Daria will go with nearly everything!

Charity event – fittedforwork

Because we appreciate being able to do something we love, we think that others should be given the opportunity to do so as well. This is why we’ve decided to donate all proceeds of the Chapeaux & Champagne event to Fitted For Work, a charity which helps disadvantaged women gain employment. They believe that if a woman is fitted for work, she’s fitted for life.

More information can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/Chapeauxandchampagne/

We’re wanting it to be a relaxed, stylish affair where you come together with other racing fashion-minded ladies and chat over champagne, coffee, tea and nibbles. It’s going to be a great source of inspiration for putting together your Spring racing outfits! There will be a lovely photo wall where you can have a pic taken wearing one of our designs and a presentation on how to wear your hair with millinery.

Each milliner has generously created a beautiful hat to be raffled off at the event. There are four different styles to suit everyone, showcasing the different unique styles from each milliner. The hats were all designed with wearability in mind and each unique piece would be perfect for the upcoming spring racing carnival. Just make sure you take along some cash to be in the running for all the hats! It’s all for such a great cause!

Dress up

Because there are never enough opportunities to dress up throughout the year, we’re asking you all to frock up in spring racing fashion for the event. There will be a best-dressed prize! Let’s hope for some beautiful spring weather so that we can ditch our winter coats! More details will be released leading up to the day of the event.

It’s the first event of this scale for any of us. With our different backgrounds (aside from millinery) we’re confident that we can pull together a wonderful afternoon tea for all our guests. If our guests share a pic of themselves wearing our millinery, tell us how beautiful our work is or just walk away with a smile on their faces from the lovely afternoon they’ve had, it’s all going to be worth it.

Hope you can join in on the fun!
